A slice of Zuidlaren bun for breakfast is a good start to the day!

The Zuidlaren bun was conceived around 50 years ago and was developed by the Hovius Bakery. In former days it would simply be cut with a penknife and eaten without the butter that makes it so delicious. Despite the fact that it contained no flavour and bread enhancers, the flavour and texture of the Zuidlaren bun remained just as good because of the many currants and raisins it contained. Today's bun is still made using the traditional recipe with rye flour and lots of currants, raisins and candied fruit, and is a popular delicacy at the time of the Zuidlaren market.

How is a Zuidlaren bun eaten?
Cut it into slices (not too thick) and give it a nice layer of butter: delicious with a cup of coffee or with lunch.

BON APPETIT!
